I love when my vibe matches my outfit! In college, I remember wearing Led Zeppelin t-shirts to class and the cool kids would strike up a convo with me about their favorite Zeppelin album.
When I was interviewing for corporate sales positions I wore this winter white pencil skirt, blazer, and leather briefcase. The receptionists thought I was their general counsel. I showed up with confidence and my outfit matched.
Then as a stay at home mom, my uniform changed again. It consisted of leggings and baggy t-shirts. Anytime I left the house wearing jeans, my husband would ask “Where are you going?!” It became clear to me that I was letting myself go.
I felt like I was losing my style identity. On the inside I was still that classic rock loving, sexy pencil skirt wearing woman, but my outside didn’t reflect that. I needed a style make-over! When I looked in my closet, the clothes didn’t represent me anymore. I told myself to stop making excuses and get dressed-up for you! Waiting until we are a certain weight, or waiting until we have more time & money to spend on ourselves is an excuse. STOP waiting and start living. Life is the occasion.
There’s a recurring theme in my life; “stop waisting time”. I lost my dad unexpectedly in 2020. He was the kind of person who squeezed every drop out of his day. I feel a sense of urgency to do the same and never take time for granted.
Now my husband and little boys shower me with compliments and are proud of how I show up for myself. If you are entering a new chapter in your life, know that I’ve been there and your vivacious self is waiting for you on the other side.
