I love when my vibe matches my outfit! In college, I remember wearing Led Zeppelin t-shirts to class and the cool kids would strike up a convo with me about their favorite Zeppelin album.
When I was working in Marketing & Sales for Fortune 500 in New York City I wore these beautifully tailored pencil skirts, fitted blazer, and carried a leather briefcase. Every receptionist thought I was their general counsel or C-Level executive. I showed up with confidence and my outfit matched.
Then as a stay at home mom, my uniform changed again. It consisted of leggings and baggy t-shirts. Anytime I left the house wearing jeans, my husband would ask “Where are you going?!” It became clear to me that I was letting myself go.
I felt like I was losing my personal identity and connection to my self. On the inside I was still that classic rock loving, sexy pencil skirt wearing woman, but my outside didn’t reflect that. I needed a style make-over! When I looked in my closet, the clothes didn’t represent me anymore. I told myself to stop making excuses and get dressed-up for me! Waiting until we are a certain weight or until we have more time/money to spend on ourselves is an excuse. STOP waiting and start living. Life is the occasion.
There’s a recurring theme in my life; “stop waisting time”. I lost my dad unexpectedly in 2020. He was the kind of person who squeezed every drop out of his day. I feel a sense of urgency to do the same and never take time for granted.
